GIRLS BASKETBALL

NORTH OCONEE 41, LOGANVILLE 36: At Bogart, the Titans won their first game of the season with a tight victory over the visiting Red Devils.

Bella Ripley scored a team-high 14 and Shekya Watson added nine points.

North Oconee (1-7) will host Walnut Grove at 7 p.m. Friday.

JEFFERSON 51, MORGAN COUNTY 32: At Jefferson, the Dragons – ranked No. 5 in Class 4A – got a game-high 11 points from Alliane Clark as they improved to 3-1 on the season.

Jefferson will host Apalachee at 7 p.m. Friday.

EAST JACKSON 55, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 40: At Jefferson, East Jackson won for the second time in its last three games and improved to 4-3 with a home win over Oglethorpe County, which remains winless at 0-4.

Kenzie Whitehead led all scorers with 16 points and Maurissa Thomas added 14 points for the Eagles.

The Patriots were led by Nikya Meadows (eight points), Keisha Dorsey (eight points) and Jenna Pulliam (seven points).

East Jackson will host White County at 7 p.m. Friday. Oglethorpe County will play Friday at Madison County.

COMMERCE 48, JACKSON COUNTY 45: At Commerce, freshman Bryanna Sanders scored a game-high 18 points as the Tigers improved to 2-1.

Sanders was followed by Jeanece Smith, who scored 11 points.

For Jackson County, Caroline Davis and Carlie Anderson scored 12 points each. Kendall Clerici added 10 points and Carson Anderson contributed six points.

Commerce will host Hebron Christian at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Jackson County (2-4) will play at 7 p.m. Friday at West Hall.

APALACHEE 46, HEBRON CHRISTIAN 26: At Dacula, thanks chiefly to a double-double by Nakia Hooks, Apalachee won its third consecutive game and improved to 3-2 with a dominating victory over Hebron Christian.

Hooks finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Briana Bryson added 15 points and freshman Kinsley Kraus had eight points.

The Wildcats will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Jefferson.

BUFORD 56, CEDAR SHOALS 28: At Buford, the Jaguars were no match for Buford, ranked No. 1 in Class 5A.

Cedar Shoals (3-3) will host Flowery Branch at 7 p.m. Friday.

WALNUT GROVE 60, CLARKE CENTRAL 58: At Clarke Central, the Gladiators lost their second consecutive game and fell to 3-3 with a narrow loss to Walnut Grove.

Aaliyah Hall posted a double-double for Clarke Central with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jayla Barnett added 15 points and Isis Hutchens contributed 13 points.

The Gladiators will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Gainesville.

GREENE COUNTY 38, ATHENS CHRISTIAN 34: At Greensboro, the Eagles fell to 0-3 after dropping their second consecutive close game. Athens Christian lost to East Jackson 26-25 in their last game on Nov. 28.

Madison Pickerel led the Eagles with 16 points, 14 of which came at the free-throw line. Sydney Bridges added nine points.

Athens Christian will play at 6 p.m. Friday at Providence Christian.

BOYS BASKETBALL

CLARKE CENTRAL 72, WALNUT GROVE 46: At Clarke Central, the unbeaten Gladiators raced out to a 17-0 lead and cruised to a lopsided victory.

Clarke Central had four players score double-digit points, with Dwon Smith posting a game-high 13 points, followed by Quamontae Monfort (10 points) and Mijah Campbell (10 points). Jaiquez Smith contributed seven assists.

The Gladiators (6-0) will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Gainesville.

BUFORD 74, CEDAR SHOALS 48: At Buford, the Jaguars dropped their third consecutive game – all against ranked teams – and saw their record go to 2-4.

Cedar Shoals – ranked No. 7 in Class 5A – lost 65-57 on Dec. 2 to Dacula – ranked No. 2 in Class 6A – and fell 75-51 on Dec. 1 to Morgan County – ranked No. 1 in Class 3A.

JaiVanni McDavid led the Jaguars with 15 points and Quincy Canty added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Cedar Shoals will host Flowery Branch at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

EAST JACKSON 78, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 50: At Jefferson, the Eagles bounced back from their loss to Buford – ranked No. 2 in Class 5A – on Saturday with a convincing victory over visiting Oglethorpe County.

East Jackson (7-1) had three players score in double figures – Xavier Clark had 19 points, Tay Howard added 17 points and Jace Bonds scored 14 points.

The Eagles will host White County at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

COMMERCE 73, JACKSON COUNTY 71: At Commerce, the Tigers earned their first victory of the season (and first victory for new coach Russ Gregg) as Ky’re Ware led the way with a team-high 18 points.

Jamecus Cox added 16 points and Caleb Mason tallied nine points for Commerce.

Iaises Risher of Jackson County scored a game-high 22 points and Logan Chatham contributed 11 points.

The Tigers (1-2) will host Hebron Christian at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Panthers (2-4) will play at 8:30 p.m. Friday at West Hall.

APALACHEE 86, HEBRON CHRISTIAN 59: At Dacula, the Wildcats had five players score in double figures as they improved to 3-2.

Derek Miller led Apalachee with 15 points and seven rebounds, followed by DeMarcus Wester (14 points, eight rebounds), Brandon Bannis (14 points, six rebounds), Deron Collier (13 points, seven rebounds and four assists) and A.J. Millbrooks, who scored 10 points off the bench.

The Wildcats will play at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Jefferson.

MADISON COUNTY 51, RIVERSIDE MILITARY 44: At Gainesville, Madison County won its third consecutive game and improved to 3-1 with a road victory.

The Red Raiders will host Oglethorpe County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

GREENE COUNTY 57, ATHENS CHRISTIAN 49: At Greensboro, the Eagles remained winless despite having three players score in double figures.

Jared Boyd led Athens Christian with 16 points and was followed by Jalen Reid, who had 15 points and Kohl Phillips, who scored 11 points.

The Eagles (0-3) will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Providence Christian.

LOGANVILLE 65, NORTH OCONEE 62: At Bogart, the Titans are still looking for their first win as they dropped a close home game to the Red Devils.

Dylan Garrington led North Oconee with 14 points, and Jalen Behr added 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Titans (0-8) will play Walnut Grove at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

MORGAN COUNTY 61, JEFFERSON 37: At Jefferson, Morgan County – ranked No. 1 in Class 3A – scored a decisive victory over the Dragons as Alec Woodward scored 16 points and Anthony Cooper added 14 points for the Bulldogs.

Jasper Gibson led Jefferson with 15 points.

The Dragons (2-4) will host Apalachee at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

SWIMMING

NORTH OCONEE COMPETES IN PENTATHLON: In Cumming, North Oconee swimmers collected seven first-place medals at the inaugural Kris Hunt Pentathlon at North Forsyth High School.

Six teams competed in the meet, which is the only high-school pentathlon in the Southeast. Swimmers were asked to compete in five races — four individual events and one relay.

North Oconee’s Charlie Logan won the 200-yard freestyle, the 200 individual medley, the 100 butterfly and the 100 freestyle to claim the High Point Award in the Boys B bracket.

Karen Zhao won the 500 free and finished second in the Girls A bracket, which included the 200 free, 200 IM, 100 fly, 100 free and 400 free relay.

Henry Logan won the 500 free and finished third in the Boys A bracket, which included the 50 free, 500 free, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 free relay.

The Titans’ boys 200 free relay team — Noah Kopp, Keaton Coletti, Samuel Ash and Craig Kennedy — also finished first.

Charlie Logan qualified for the state meet in the 100 free, Zhao qualified in the 50 free and 100 back. and Bryn Halbach qualified in the 100 back.

North Oconee will compete Saturday at the Clarke-Oconee Invitational at the UGA Ramsey Center.
