At Savannah, the Raiders eliminated the Eagles from the Class A Private state playoffs with a semifinal sweep. Savannah Christian defeated Athens Christian 2-1 in the opening game and came back with a 2-0 victory in the second game to advance to the state finals.
In the first game, Emory Vaughn pitched 6 2/3 innings with seven hits and one strikeout but gave up two seventh-inning runs. Zach Brockman earned the victory for Savannah Christian, pitching a complete-game one-hitter with eight strikeouts.
Terrell Mattox had the Eagles’ only hit, Blayze Haddock recorded one RBI and Austin Knowles contributed one run.
In the second game, the Raiders’ Kyle Hilton scattered three hits, gave up no walks and struck out seven Athens Christian batters. Andrew Hayes sustained the pitching loss, working seven innings and giving up seven hits, two runs (one earned) and one walk with three strikeouts.
Chandler Pethel, Knowles and Haddock recorded the Eagles’ hits.
Athens Christian – the No. 4 team in the Class A Private power rankings – ends the season at 25-8. Savannah Christian – the No. 1 team in the rankings – will face the winner between Tattnall Square and Holy Innocents for the state championship.
