Georgia small forward Rayshaun Hammonds’ 17 points in the 79-54 opening win Friday was the most for a Bulldog freshman in an opener since Jeremy Price’s 18 against Jacksonville State on Nov. 9, 2007. The crowd of 7,387 was the largest for a Georgia opener since 2007. Kyle Perry, a former Georgia Tech walk-on, moved up from assistant to head coach at USC-Upstate on Oct. 20 after Eddie Payne stepped down to health concerns following two ankle replacements. The Spartans, an Atlantic Sun program located in Spartanburg, S.C., went 17-16 last season.
