Georgia was missing one of its best defensive lineman for its first preseason scrimmage Saturday.
Defensive lineman Jonathan Ledbetter’s absence isn’t expected to be long-term, according to coach Kirby Smart.
The Bulldogs open the season Sept. 2 against Appalachian State.
“He’s got a little bit of an illness that he’s dealing with,” Smart said. “Really can’t disclose it right now. Expecting him coming back any day.”
Ledbetter, a junior, had 24 tackles in the final seven games of last season after being suspended the first six games of last season after two alcohol-related arrests.
Smart has used the term “illness” to describe why offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn and defensive lineman Michail Carter have missed practice time this presason.
