UGA got a commitment on Saturday from 2019 Blessed Trinity TE J.D. Bertrand.
Bertrand makes the fifth commitment of the 2019 class - a group that includes the No. 1 and No. 13 overall prospects in the country.
While Bertrand is listed as a tight end by Scout, he should really be considered a jumbo athlete. At 6-1, 216, Bertrand plays linebacker, defensive back and defensive end for Blessed Trinity in addition to his tight end duties.
“Coach Smart said he’s seen my film and can see me playing multiple positions (ILB, OLB, Rover, DE), but he offered me as an inside linebacker,” he said. “I think I’ll be able to fit well into their defensive scheme.”
“He’s got good instincts, gets off blocks well,” said Scout recruiting analyst Matt DeBary. “Bertrand reacts quickly and can dissect a play before it starts. He powers through blocks and has a true nose for the football.”
The Bulldogs hosted a slew of recruits over the weekend during a closed event at the university. Bertrand was offered by Smart and the Bulldogs in March.
