Georgia will head to Gainesville, Fla., for its NCAA gymnastics regional, the NCAA announced Monday.
The tenth-ranked Gymdogs (RQS 197.005) will face two familiar opponents in No. 3 Florida (197.635) and No. 15 Missouri (196.540) in the southeast regional at 4 p.m. on April 1. New Hampshire (195.745), Penn State (195.590) and North Carolina (195.430) round out the six-team field.
Thirty-six teams will compete in regionals across the country. The top two teams out of each regional will advance to the semifinals in St. Louis April 14. The Super Six will take place April 15.
Georgia will start on vault. Towson’s Gabriella Yarussi, an individual all-around competitor, will rotate with the Gymdogs.
Georgia defeated Missouri 197.075-196.075 in Athens in January and fell 197.975-196.525 at Florida in February. The Gymdogs finished fourth with a score of 196.700 at the SEC Championships in Jacksonville, Fla., Saturday. Florida scored 197.825 and took second. Missouri finished seventh with a 195.825.
North Carolina State sophomore Paris Phillips, a North Oconee graduate, will be an individual event specialist on vault and an alternate for the all-around and floor exercise competitions.
