Around UGA: March 20-26

Georgia teams will spend a lot of time in Athens this week. The tennis teams will host multiple matches, and the baseball team will host its SEC home opener.


Here’s what to know about the events at Georgia this week:

SEC play at home

Georgia’s softball team will wrap up its series with Kentucky at 7 p.m. today at home before traveling to LSU for a weekend series. The baseball team treks to Kennesaw State at 5 p.m. Tuesday before resuming SEC play with a series against visiting Auburn. The series begins at 7 p.m. Friday and continues Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Big week of tennis

The men’s and women’s tennis teams will host four matches over a four-day span to end the week. The men’s tennis team, which fell 4-3 to top-ranked Wake Forest Friday, will host LSU at 6 p.m. Thursday and Alabama at 5 p.m. Saturday. The women’s tennis team, which defeated No. 1 Florida 4-1 in Gainesville Friday, will host Ole Miss at 5 p.m. Friday and Mississippi State at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Postseason competition continues

The men’s swimming and diving team will head to Indianapolis, Ind. for the NCAA Championships, which begin Wednesday and run through Saturday. The Gymdogs will also travel for NCAA Regionals after a fourth-place finish at the SEC Championships Saturday.

Event to watch

Ten men will compete at the NCAA Championships, which start Wednesday. Gunnar Bentz, Chase Kalisz and Jay Litherland will compete in three individual events apiece.

Robert Loeb, men’s tennis

Loeb earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season after wins over Ole Miss and Arkansas earlier this month. Loeb went 2-0 in singles and picked up a sixth win in doubles with Jan Zielinski.
