Three residents of Oconee County recently came together for a check presentation as the Georgia Power Foundation gave a check for $5,000 to the St. Mary’s Foundation. Nine Athens Academy students represented the school at the Area 2 Private Literary Meet held at Prince Avenue Christian School on Feb. 28. Senior Mackenzie Ferguson took first place in Argumentative Essay; sophomore David Gordon placed first in Personal Essay; and senior Nathan Glushka placed second in the Extemporaneous Speech – International category. All have advanced to the state competition on March 18. “All of our other students did quite well in their respective categories and should be commended as well,” said faculty advisor Marlana Street. Teammates include seniors Jamie Hicks, Dhruv Patel, Thomas Suarez and Emily Rose Thorne, as well as juniors Ryan Iyer and Helmut Lord.Full Story
