High school scores (Nov. 11)




EAST JACKSON 51, BETHLEHEM CHRISTIAN 36: At Commerce, the Eagles had two players score in double figures as they opened the 2017-18 season with a victory over Bethlehem Christian.

Freshman Kenzie Whitehead led all scorers with 16 points and Grace Moore added 11 points.

For Bethlehem Christian, Rebekah Doolittle and Stella Byrd scored 11 points each.

The Eagles will host Crescent (S.C.) at 7 p.m. Friday on the first day of the East Jackson Tip-Off Classic.

The Knights will play at 6 p.m. Thursday at Notre Dame Academy in Norcross.


JOHN, MORRIS POST TOP-20 RUNS: At the USATF Georgia High School Meet of Champions in Fayetteville, Oconee County’s Wesley John and Harrison Morris both recorded top 20 finishes.

John finished 11th overall among 250 runners in a time of 15 minutes, 55 seconds and Morris finished 13th in 15:57.

North Oconee’s Alex Thomas finished 30th in 16:15, followed by teammates Davis Potts (55th place, 16:36), Brady Kalessa (67th place, 16:43), Jacob Ash (74th place, 16:48), Dawson Frey (104th place, 17:11), Max Pearson (140th place, 17:39), Bo Hancock (149th place, 17:46), Acton Vogt (198th place, 18:21), Collin Pannell (205th place, 18:29) and Michael Shirley (242nd place, 20:13).

Marco Flores of East Jackson finished 125th overall in 17:26.


PACHUTA COMES IN 10th: At the USATF Georgia High School Meet of Champions in Fayetteville, Oconee County’s Nicole Pachuta – who earlier in the week signed a letter of intent to run at Georgia – finished 10th overall.

Pachuta, who last week won the Class 4A state championship in Carrollton, finished 10th among 165 runners in 18 minutes, 34 seconds.

She was followed by teammates Caroline McArthur (27th place, 18:59), Norine Moore (75th place, 19:53), Phoebe Brodrick (86th place, 20:11), Jenna Eisele (121st place, 21:07) and Mia Senyitko (136th place, 21:42).

East Jackson’s Sue Ann Morales finished 9th overall in 20:25.


TITANS FINISH FIRST: At the Gabrielsen Natatorium at the University of Georgia, North Oconee recorded six first-place finishes and came in first among 13 teams with 472 points. Combined with the North Oconee girls’ 493 points, the Titan Tide claimed the meet’s overall victory with 965 points.

North Oconee was first, followed by Harrison (373 points), Oconee County (366 points), Loganville (244 points) and Clarke Central (169 points). Athens Academy was sixth with 138 points, Cedar Shoals finished seventh with 112 points, Jackson County was 11th with 35 points and Prince Avenue Christian finished 13th with 29 points.

North Oconee had a multi-event winner in Charlie Logan, who won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Henry Logan won 500 freestyle and the Titans’ 200 yard IM relay team (Colton Evans, Charlie Logan, David Mustard, Craig Kennedy), 200 freestyle relay team (Kennedy, Charlie Logan, Evans, Mustard) and 400 freestyle relay team (Henry Logan, Dhruv Prakash, Samuel Ash and Noah Kopp) were victorious.

For Clarke Central, Caedmon Churchwell won the 200 IM and Owen Churchwell won the 50 freestyle.

For Oconee County, Tucker Schroer won the 100 freestyle and Adam Brooks won the 1-meter diving competition.


NORTH OCONEE SECOND: At a 16-team meet at the University of Georgia’s Gabrielsen Natatorium, North Oconee recorded two first-place finishes and finished second overall with 493 points. Combined with the North Oconee boys’ 472 points, the Titan Tide took the meet’s overall victory with 965 points.

Harrison won with 541 points, followed by North Oconee, Oconee County (198 points), Loganville (173 points) and Social Circle (161). Clarke Central was eighth with 124 points, Jackson County finished ninth with 65 points, Madison County was 12th with 40 points, Athens Academy finished 13th with 33 points, Jefferson was 14th with 15 points, Cedar Shoals finished 15th with 13 points and Prince Avenue Christian was 16th with 2 points.

North Oconee’s Karen Zhao was victorious in two events, winning the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle.

Madison County’s Macy Mullis also won two events, the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Clarke Central’s Lucy Yeomans won the 500 freestyle and Oconee County’s Erin Osborne won the 100 IM.
