Oconee County’s school system has announced two new elementary principals for the 2018-19 school year, including one for the county’s new Dove Creek Elementary School, now under construction in the northwest part of the county.
Susan Stancil, now principal at Malcom Bridge Elementary, will take the helm at Dove Creek, the school system announced Tuesday. Stancil has been principal at Malcom Bridge since 2014.
Jennifer Haygood, assistant principal at Malcom Bridge since 2015, will become that school’s principal as Stancil moves to Dove Creek.
Stancil holds four degrees from the University of Georgia: a bachelor’s, master’s, educational specialist and doctorate. Her first job in education was as a special-education teacher in Barrow County, and was subsequently named special-education coordinator for Barrow. She was named assistant principal at Oconee’s Malcom Bridge Middle School in 2011, then moved to Malcom Bridge Elementary as principal in 2014.
Haygood got her bachelor’s and educational specialist degrees from UGA and has a master’s degree from Macon’s Wesleyan College.
She took her first job as an elementary school teacher at Rosa Taylor Elementary School in Macon in 2003 and taught at Colbert Elementary School in Madison County and Malcom Bridge Elementary and High Shoals Elementary in Oconee County before taking the Malcom Bridge assistant principal post in 2015.
Both women will officially begin their new jobs next June 1.
