Athens woman serves in U.S. Navy

An Athens sailor is serving on the USS Bonhomme Richard.

U.S. Navy Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Airman Haley Baker, from Athens, is seen signaling to the pilot of a CH-53E Super Stallion as the helicopter takes off from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6).

Bonhomme Richard, flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, is operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

In this photo, Baker is seen in the Coral Sea.

The purpose of the operation of the Bonhomme Richard is to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
