Emancipation Proclamation observance set for Monday in Watkinsville

The 29th annual Emancipation Proclamation and Pioneer Awards event will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Bethel Baptist Church on North Main Street in Watkinsville.

 

The program is open to the public.

The event will honor 17 people who have made contributions in enhancing the lives of those with special needs. The keynote speaker is the Rev. Joseph L. Nunnally from Rock Hill Baptist Church of White Plains.

The program is sponsored by the In Touch Management Group with proceeds benefiting its scholarship program and service projects.

This year, Fred O. Smith Sr. will receive the Rev. Archibald Killian Lifetime Achievement Award.

The others receiving Pioneer Awards are Larry Colbert, Richard O. Cornelius Sr., Betty Delaper, Jennifer Dollander, Luther M. Echols, Daffna Hopp-Vaughn, Norman King, Gwendolyn Manzy, Audrey Patterson-Fisher, Mattie Pope, Shelia Simmons, Kattie Stroud, Wendy Wade, Diane Westbrook and Ronnie Willoughby.
