Four people were arrested outside Chuck E. Cheese on Atlanta Highway on Sunday afternoon for their involvement in a melee that erupted after two children bumped into each other inside the restaurant/arcade, Athens-Clarke County police said.
Kristen Hali McCart of Winder was leading her child by the hand through the busy establishment when the child collided with another child and fell, according to police.
That child was also being pulled by her mother, Sarah Leigh Gibbs of Athens, who did not stop when the other child got knocked down, police said.
McCart followed Gibbs outside, where they argued and a physical altercation involving several adults ensued, police said.
Police said they obtained a bystander’s cellphone video that showed other fights breaking out between adults who appeared to be trying to pull the two women apart as they fought on the ground.
At one point, a woman pushed Decatur resident Adidas Storm Whitehead, identified as McCart’s “significant other,” who retaliated by punching that woman in the face multiple times and punching a second woman as well, according to police.
McCart, Gibbs and Anna Gatlin Petree of Athens were each charged with affray/ fighting in public, while Whitehead was charged with affray and battery, police said. All were booked into the Clarke County Jail, except for Petree, who was taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of an open wound under her eye police said was caused by being punched by Whitehead.
