An Athens man was arrested Tuesday for stabbing another man nine times when he flew into a rage concerning remarks the victim made to his wife, Athens-Clarke County police said.
Despite being stabbed once in the chest and eight more times under the left armpit early Tuesday morning, the victim was released later that night after being treated at St. Mary’s Hospital, according to police.
Police learned about the knife attack when notified by a hospital security guard that the victim, though covered in blood, had driven himself to the emergency room.
The victim fell in and out of consciousness when police initially tried to interview him. He did not know where he was attacked, police said, but he identified the attacker as 37-year-old Patrick Waymon Allen of Michele Drive.
Investigators determined that the victim, Allen and his wife were together at a home off Vincent Drive, where Allen’s sister-in-law lived.
“Mr. and Mrs. Allen got into an argument,” said Epifanio Rodriguez, spokesman for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. “The victim made a comment and that’s when the stabbing began.”
Police secured warrants charging Allen with aggravated assault and false imprisonment. He was arrested by Clarke County sheriff’s deputies.
