A man who told authorities he is homeless was arrested recently on child molestation charges in Madison County.
Matthew Reed Sumner, 24, was arrested Sept. 27 on charges of statutory rape, aggravated child molestation and three counts of child molestation. He is in jail without bond.
The charges allege that Sumner molested a girl last year at the victim’s home, according to Madison County Sheriff’s Capt. Jimmy Patton.
“It’s one they’ve been working on for a while and we were waiting on the crime lab,” Patton said. Once the crime lab results were returned, the evidence was taken recently to a grand jury, which determined an arrest warrant should be issued, he said.
