Eastside Athens residents might for a small while see a bit of tinge in their water when opening up the taps.
A water main on Barnett Shoals Road near the Georgetown Shopping Center broke on Tuesday.
Athens-Clarke County public utilities crews worked to the repair the leak on Tuesday, so they don’t expect a disruption in service. But officials noted in a news release the water may initially appear discolored or brown.
Mineral sediment on the bottom of water lines can get stirred up when the lines are closed and then reopened. County officials noted the water is safe to use and consume.
Running the taps for several minutes should clear up the lines.
For more information, or to report ongoing water discoloration, call the county Public Utilities Department Water & Sewer Division at (706) 613-3481.
