The Georgia Department of Transportation is suspending interstate highway construction-related lane closures for the Labor Day weekend.
The move is intended to ease the statewide congestion associated with holiday travel. The suspension takes effect noon Friday and continues until 5 a.m. on Tuesday.
GDOT urges drivers to continue to exercise caution, as crews may still be working in close proximity to the highways or on long-term projects that will remain in place. Lane-closures associated with emergencies or maintenance issues may also become necessary.
The Department also encourages motorists to drive safe over the holiday weekend.
