The Lighthouse, which provides glasses and hearing aids to the underinsured and uninsured, is launching a July fundraising campaign.

The Lighthouse’s mobile clinic visits sites throughout Georgia, including one in Athens. The clinic allows The Lighthouse to partner with doctors so underserved patients can get diagnosed and treated for eye conditions and receive affordable eye exams and glasses produced at The Lighthouse’s Chamblee clinic.

This month, The Lighthouse is raising money to pay for two eyeglass-making machines. During a typical month, an optical lab will produce between 25 and 100 pair of glasses, but The Lighthouse produces six times that amount, leading to wear on its machines that need replacing.

The Lighthouse customers in need of eyewear are eligible for an eye exam and glasses every two years at affordable prices. Last year. The Lighthouse produced more than 7,091 pair of eyeglasses.
