Police: Colbert man on Harley hit 130 mph during pursuit

A Colbert man allegedly drove his motorcycle 130 mph through Madison County as he sought to outrun a Comer police officer trying to stop him for a traffic violation.

The chase occurred on Georgia Highway 72 on May 11, according to Comer Police Chief Kyle Roberts.

Joshua Ryan Butcher, 28, was charged with numerous offenses, including attempting to elude, obstruction, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.

Roberts said Butcher ran a stop sign going more than 80 mph at the Highway 72 Spur in Comer, then sped off along Highway 72 traveling west. Butcher, driving a Harley-Davidson, reached a speed of 130 mph through downtown Colbert, the chief said.

Police used a tactic used to stop a fleeing vehicle, and the motorcycle crashed near the Pick Quick station at Sorrow Patterson Road, Roberts said.

After the crash, Butcher ran and officers chased him down on foot.

“They had to fight with him to get him in handcuffs,” Roberts said.
