Athens man stripped, robbed when planned tryst proves to be a set-up

An Athens man was stripped and robbed early Friday morning during a home-invasion armed robbery at his Herbert Road house by a woman he had planned to spend the night with, Athens-Clarke County police said.

The man identified the suspect as a 24-year-old Watkinsville woman who he had known for years and had recently began communicating with, according to police.

She reportedly contacted the man late Thursday to ask if she could come to his house to have sex, and made a point of asking if he’d be alone because she did not want anyone to know about the affair, according to police.

After arriving at the victim’s home around midnight, they chatted for a while and when the victim turned to lead the woman upstairs to the bedroom, she opened the door for an accomplice, police said. He was described by the victim as a masked white male dressed all in black who pointed a pistol at him while demanding money.

After the victim claimed he had no money, the female suspect took off his pants and underwear and left with the clothing while the male suspect took the victim’s cellphone, according to police. The clothing and phone were later recovered outside by police, who said $50 had been removed from the pants.

The victim told police he went to the back of his house to hide after hearing two gunshots in the front yard.

The victim used another phone to call 911 and when police arrived, they found the clothing and two spent bullet casings in the yard.

The victim told police the female suspect was black and that he knew her only by one name. Her actual identity was later confirmed from a Facebook photo.

Her accomplice was identified as possibly being a man who lived near the victim’s home.

Police said when they went to the possible suspect’s home, his parents insisted he was not there and would not give consent for their house to be searched.

Police had not obtained any warrants as of Friday afternoon.
