Graduation exercises are scheduled Saturday for 565 seniors in Clarke County’s two main public high schools, and on Thursday for a smaller group.
Clarke Central’s graduation exercises will begin at 3 p.m. in the University of Georgia’s Stegeman Coliseum, with Cedar Shoals’ exercises following at 6, also in the coliseum.
The Classic City High School graduation is Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Morton Theatre in downtown Athens.
Oconee County’s two high schools are also holding their graduation exercises in Athens this weekend, both Friday at Stegeman — Oconee County High at 3 p.m. and North Oconee High at 7.
In Athens, the Cedar Shoals valedictorian is Geoffrey Mon, who will attend Princeton University and was awarded the National Merit Scholarship. He plans on majoring in computer science. The Cedar Shoals salutatorian is Charlie Ye, who will attend Georgia Tech and was awarded the Zell Miller Scholarship. He plans on majoring in computer science.
The valedictorian for Clarke Central is Avery Elise Warner, who plans to attend UGA and received its Foundation Fellowship. She plans to major in business analytics. The salutatorian is Isobel Ivey Crain, who will attend UGA and has received the Zell Miller and Harris scholarships. She will major in math.
The valedictorian for Classic City is Marlon Chavez, and the salutatorian is Angela Lee.
According to the school district, about 60 percent of Clarke County’s graduating seniors say they plan to attend a four-year college, while another 15 percent say they are headed to a two-year college. The rest say they plan to work or join the military.
