Fox attacks Burke County sheriff’s deputy

WAYNESBORO, Ga. | A Burke County Sheriff’s deputy has been hospitalized after being attacked by a fox.

The Augusta Chronicle reported that deputies were dispatched Monday afternoon in response to a report of a wild fox acting strangely.

Chief Deputy Lewis Blanchard said the fox approached and bit the complainant on the leg. When the deputies arrived, the fox approached Deputy Misty May, who tried to subdue the animal with a spray. The fox became agitated and attacked her. She sustained multiple bites before deputies got the animal away and killed it.

May was transported to Burke County Hospital for treatment. The fox will be tested for rabies.
