An Athens man was arrested Sunday in Madison County after authorities said he tried to elude a Georgia State Patrol trooper in a high-speed chase that ended with him wrecking his motorcycle.

Marquez O’Neal Favors, 20, is charged with attempting to elude, speeding, weaving in the road, reckless driving, obstruction and no proof of insurance. He remained in the Madison County Jail without bond Monday.

Madison County sheriff’s deputies learned over dispatch that a trooper was attempting to stop a motorcycle that was traveling more than 100 mph on U.S. Highway 29 near Hull, according to the report.

The motorcycle wrecked near Piedmont Road and the driver fled on foot in the direction of Thomas Road, where a patrolling deputy spotted the suspect and arrested him, officers said.
