Braselton man charged with sexually exploiting children

A former Dunwoody police officer living in the Jackson County town of Braselton was arrested Thursday on two counts of sexual exploitation of children, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Joseph Tomalka, 48, was arrested by officers with the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit. As of Friday, Tomalka was being held in the Jackson County Jail, according to a GBI news release.

The GBI investigation into Tomalka’s alleged activities began in September, when the Braselton Police Department asked for assistance in connection with allegations that Tomalka was viewing child pornography on his home laptop.

Agents arrested Tomalka after conducting what the GBI news release called “several investigative acts.”

This investigation remains active and ongoing. The GBI is asking anyone with related information to contact the Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit at (404) 270-8870.
