AARP providing free tax assistance

Free federal and state tax preparation and free electronic filing of tax returns is being offered again this year by the AARP Tax-Aide Program. AARP Tax-Aide is administered through the AARP Foundation in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service.

Volunteers will be available to help taxpayers of middle and low income, with special attention to those ages 50 and older. There is non requirement to be an AARP member to receive service. Those interested in the program should bring identification, their Social Security card, 2016 tax documents and supporting information, and a copy of their 2015 tax return.

The AARP Tax-Aide program is available in Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties at the following dates, times and places: Mondays from 12.30-5 p.m. at the Oconee County Library, 1080 Experiment Station Road, Watkinsville; Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Kroger grocery store at 1720 Epps Bridge Parkway, and Wednesdays from 12:30-5 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Athens-Clarke County Public Library, 20215 Baxter St.
