Q & A with cofounders Chris Herron (CEO), Adam Beauchamp (Brewmaster), and David Stein (Head Brewer)
Q: Where and when was your business founded?
A: April 2014 at its present location in the old Winter Tire Building
Q: What is your business philosophy?
A: Our business philosophy is grounded in our mission statement, which is to build an industry respected craft brewery that inspires people to pursue their passion. If we can operate our business in a way that those in the industry respect what we are doing, we can be confident that we are moving in the right direction.
Q: What is the greatest challenge you face in your business?
A: Generally, our biggest challenge has been cash flow management. That is not really something unique to us. It is always a challenge for any fast growing, capital intensive business.
Q: What is the greatest reward you get from operating Creature Comforts?
A: The greatest reward has been being able to provide jobs for people in Athens and watching employees find themselves in a position where they are confident enough in their job and position, that they are buying a first home, or a new car, or simply moving to a new apartment. Watching the impact of creating meaningful jobs that offer people the opportunity to plan for the future, has been absolutely incredible.
What are your most popular products?
A: Tropicália, our year-round IPA (India Pale Ale) is very popular and all of our seasonals and limited releases have also been well-received.
Q: What is most enjoyable being a member of the Athens business community?
A: The opportunity to collaborate with so many talented artisans and artists. Whether in designing a can or procuring ingredients for a beer, Athens is just a wonderful place to be a consumer products company.
Q: What might someone be surprised to learn about Creature Comforts?
A: Many people do not realize that we are one of the fastest growing breweries in America.
Q: Is there anything that you’d like to add?
A: We are extremely happy to be a part of the growing fabric of the Athens business community. This is an incredible city to start a company, as it is extremely supportive of local business.
