AthFest Educates has opened the submission process for bands to apply to perform at this year’s AthFest Music & Arts Festival.

The 22nd annual festival takes place June 22-24 in downtown Athens and features performances on three outdoor stages followed by a club crawl through Athens music venues.

The deadline for submissions is April 1.

Bands of all genres are encouraged to apply to perform.

About 85 percent of acts chosen to perform at AthFest are from the Athens area.

Applicants can either submit an electronic press kit online via Sonicbids.com, or mail in a CD, band and contact information. More about applying to play can be found on AthFest.com.

Bands will be notified in April if they’ve been selected to play. All bands receive a stipend for playing.

AthFest Music Chair Troy Aubrey said he looks to curate a musical lineup that reflects the local music scene in order to create a celebration of Athens artists and those with ties to Athens.

Aubrey encourages new and young local bands to apply, as part of the festival’s appeal is its showcase of what’s next in Athens music.

The AthFest Music and Arts Festival and affiliated events are fundraisers for AthFest Educates, an Athens-based nonprofit organization that works to advance high-quality music and arts education for local youth and the Athens community through direct support of school and community-based programs and events.
