The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Piedmont Athens Regional hospital recently held its annual NICU Reunion, which reunites patients and their families with the nurses and doctors who cared for them during their time in the unit.
According to the hospital, of the 2,500 annual deliveries at Piedmont Athens Regional, 10 percent are premature babies who require extra attention and medical treatment. Piedmont Athens Regional has the first and only Level III NICU in its 17-county service area. As a Level III NICU, Piedmont Athens Regional has a neonatologist on call 24 hours a day. Additionally, experienced nurses are at every Cesarean delivery and any birth with complications.
