Athens man arrested with 8 pounds of marijuana

An Athens man was arrested Thursday after the Georgia State Patrol stopped him for a traffic violation on Danielsville Road and several pounds of marijuana were found in his car, Athens-Clarke County police.

When a trooper smelled the odor of marijuana coming from Dennis Buster Mitchell’s car he asked the motorist how much marijuana was in the vehicle and Mitchell replied there were 8 pounds of pot.

The marijuana was seized, along with a handgun and about $1,600 cash, according to police.

The 48-year-old Hollow Ridge Drive resident was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, driving without a valid license and was also cited for a seat belt violation, police said.
