Athens man arrested for attack on girlfriend

Demond Contrail Harris, 29, of Fourth Street was arrested Sunday night for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend because she did not want to have sex, Athens-Clarke County police said.

Harris, who allegedly slapped the victim in the face and head, reportedly was so angry that the victim was scared to call 911. She instead sent a Facebook message to a friend, who called 911 for her, according to police.

Harris was not even supposed to be at the victim’s home because a no-contact order was a special condition of his bond from a previous domestic violence arrest, police said.

He was charged under the state Family Violence Act with simple battery and violating a family violence order, police said.
