BLOG: At the Athens-Clarke elections office

Athens-Clarke County's two dozen polling places are the focus of attention today, but lots of work goes on at the Board of Elections office in downtown Athens, too. In the space of a few minutes this morning, for instance, elections staff members took a call from a voter concerned that elederly people weren't being allowed to go to the front of the line (they have to ask for assistance), took an absentee ballot from a walk-in voter, worked to verify another walk-in customer's registration status, explained to a caller that she hadn't registered to vote by the deadline for today's election, and -- oh, yeah -- had a visit from an elderly couple who just walked in to thank them for what they do.
